Russia has developed remote-controlled spy pigeons, dubbed PJN-1, fitted with neural implants that allow operators to steer them in real time. The pigeons undergo surgery for the implantation of electrodes, enabling flight commands to be uploaded directly to their brains. Neiry, the company behind this technology, claims that any bird can be used and that the pigeons can travel over 310 miles per day. Concerns arise over the ethical implications and potential military applications of these biodrones.
