Pauline Hanson’s provocation was part of a long-running campaign to ban the wearing of the traditional Muslim garment in public.
Australian lawmaker Pauline Hanson drew accusations of racism after wearing a burqa in parliament to advocate for a ban on the garment. This stunt, which prompted outrage from several lawmakers, was her second such demonstration, following a similar incident in 2017. Hanson claims her actions highlight the mistreatment of women and national security risks associated with the garment. Her One Nation party continues to gain support for its far-right agenda, currently holding four Senate seats.
