Bell Canada is laying off approximately 690 employees, primarily non-unionized managers, as part of its strategy to reduce debt and foster growth, following previous layoffs. The cuts represent less than two percent of its workforce and include around 40 positions at Bell Media. This decision aligns with Bell’s three-year strategic plan amidst a slowdown in the telecommunications industry, which has prompted other major companies to also reduce costs. Earlier in the year, Bell offered severance to 1,200 unionized employees, reflecting ongoing industry challenges.
