A man identified as Alan Wilmer Sr., who died in 2017, has been linked through DNA to the cold case murder of 18-year-old Laurie Ann Powell, who was killed in 1988 in Virginia. Powell’s body was discovered in the Elizabeth River, having been stabbed multiple times. Wilmer is also a suspect in three other murders, including the Colonial Parkway murders. Powell’s family expressed their relief at finally receiving closure after 37 years, stating that while the pain of loss remains, the truth has emerged.
