Gaza Municipal Union reports 700,000 tons of waste accumulation

The Union of Gaza Strip Municipalities has warned of a health and environmental crisis due to 700,000 tons of waste accumulating in random dumping sites, exacerbated by severe fuel shortages and infrastructure destruction from ongoing conflict. Al-Batta, the union’s deputy head, highlighted that municipalities can’t provide basic services, with water supply drastically reduced and sewage contamination affecting groundwater. He called for urgent international assistance to supply necessary fuel and machinery. Israel’s blockade further complicates recovery efforts, leaving significant devastation in Gaza.
