Auckland Mayor Delays Peak-Hour Charges for Drivers
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Auckland Mayor Wayne Brown confirmed that motorists will not face peak-hour congestion charges on the city’s motorways soon, despite the recent passage of the Land Transport Management (Time-of-Use Charging) Amendment Bill. This law allows for congestion charging to encourage shifts in travel times or alternative transport use, aimed at reducing congestion. The council supports this initiative, with Brown previously proposing charges on specific motorway segments. Congestion is expected to cost Auckland approximately $2.6 billion annually by 2026.
