B.C. sets limits on employer requests for sick notes

The British Columbia government has implemented new regulations that limit employers from requiring sick notes for the first two health-related absences of up to five consecutive days within a year. This change, advocated by Health Minister Josie Osborne and supported by family physician Dr. Lisa Gaede, aims to reduce the administrative burden on doctors and allow sick individuals to recover without unnecessary medical visits. The initiative, part of the B.C. NDP’s election promises, responds to healthcare providers’ calls for relief from administrative tasks that detract from patient care.
