Armed New Zealand Special Air Service (NZSAS) operators were deployed to assist police in searching for Tom Phillips and his three children, who went missing in December 2021 from Marokopa, North Island. Over three missions, up to four NZSAS trackers ventured into challenging bush terrain. The NZSAS was authorized to carry firearms on two occasions during the operation. Adverse weather and delays hindered their efforts to locate Phillips and the children.
