Alberta has reported its first influenza death of the season, involving a person in their 60s, following a particularly deadly previous season with 237 fatalities. Over 100 hospitalizations due to influenza have occurred this season, with eight patients in intensive care, prompting concerns about potential strain on the healthcare system. Experts warn that this year’s flu vaccine may not effectively match an evolving H3N2 strain, though vaccination is still recommended. Additionally, COVID-19 remains a significant concern, with 36 deaths reported this season, and the vaccine is now available for a fee to most Albertans.
