Federal authorities have grounded all McDonnell Douglas MD-11 planes for inspection following a UPS cargo plane crash shortly after takeoff from Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport, which resulted in a fire and the detachment of the left engine. The FAA’s emergency directive was prompted by this accident, currently under investigation. Both UPS and FedEx have temporarily grounded their fleets of MD-11s as a precautionary measure. The crash, which has resulted in 14 confirmed deaths, is being thoroughly examined by the NTSB.
