Senate Democrats propose government reopening
Senate Democrats, led by Chuck Schumer, proposed a plan to reopen the government by extending Affordable Care Act subsidies for a year and introducing a clean continuing resolution alongside bipartisan funding bills. The Democrats’ offer aims to prevent a spike in insurance costs and establish a committee for long-term ACA negotiations but was quickly rejected by Republican leaders as a “nonstarter.” GOP Senators criticized the proposal, with some labeling it as political manipulation, emphasizing the need for a straightforward vote to reopen the government. Despite the offer’s intent, support remains uncertain, with House leaders expressing skepticism about passing any ACA funding extension.
