Wellington experienced a 4.9 magnitude earthquake shortly after 9pm, located about 25km north-west of the city in the Cook Strait, at a depth of 22km. Over 30,000 individuals reported feeling the quake, which GeoNet classified as having “moderate” shaking. The seismic event has caused noticeable rattling in the region. No significant damage or injuries have been reported at this time.
