Pirates armed with machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades have boarded a Malta-flagged tanker off the coast of Somalia, southeast of Eyl, according to the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO). The vessel was en route from Sikka, India, to Durban, South Africa when it was attacked by pirates operating from a hijacked Iranian-flagged dhow. UKMTO has issued an alert to warn other ships in the area about the ongoing threat. Further updates are expected as the situation develops.
