On October 26, Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) attacked el-Fasher, prompting Mabrooka to await her husband and brother in Tawila. As violence escalated, including summary executions and kidnappings for ransom, she received a demand for money to ensure their safety. Thousands have fled el-Fasher amid fears of targeted violence, with reports of ransoms ranging from $20 to $20,000. The UN estimates over 70,000 have been displaced, with many unaccounted for.
