Mohamed Hamdan Dagolo: Rise to Power in Sudan
Mohamed Hamdan Dagolo, known as “Hemedti,” has become a key political figure in Sudan, commanding the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which now controls half the country. Recently, the RSF captured el-Fasher, the last Sudanese army stronghold in Darfur. Hemedti, with humble origins from the Rizeigat community, has been involved in the Janjaweed militia during the Darfur conflict, gaining notoriety for violence while building a powerful paramilitary and business empire, including extensive gold mining operations.
