A 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck northern Afghanistan, near Mazar-i-Sharif, at 12:59 am local time, according to the US Geological Survey. This event follows a deadly 6.0 magnitude quake on August 31 that killed over 2,200 people. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 28 km and was felt in Kabul, with national disaster officials set to report on casualties and damage later. Afghanistan is prone to earthquakes due to its location along the tectonic plate boundary of the Hindu Kush region.
