Bait Masters, a seafood company in Nine Mile Creek, P.E.I., has developed a new lobster holding tank with the help of UPEI sustainable design engineering students. The tank, capable of storing 260 crates (26,000 pounds) of lobsters, utilizes a rainfall system to keep the crustaceans healthy while significantly increasing storage capacity without additional labor. Co-owner Mark Prevost noted that the design, which cost $200,000 to build, was essential for expanding operations without layoffs. The project involved extensive collaboration between Bait Masters and UPEI students, focusing on maintaining optimal lobster health and efficiency.
