Tens of thousands are expected to rally in Novi Sad to commemorate the one-year anniversary of a canopy collapse that killed 16 people, an event that sparked nationwide protests against government corruption. Initially focused on accountability, the protests have expanded to demand new elections and democratic reforms, following the resignation of the prime minister and ministers without any charges related to the incident. Demonstrators have received widespread support as they march across the country, highlighting issues of media freedom amidst government criticism of independent outlets. Serbia’s president downplayed the protests, announcing a national day of mourning while asserting there will be no government change.
