A 45-year-old social entrepreneur, Rohit Aarrya, held 17 children and a 75-year-old woman hostage at a Powai recording studio during auditions for a web series. The standoff lasted three hours and ended when police stormed the studio after failed negotiations. Aarrya, who fired an air gun at officers, was shot in self-defense and later died in the hospital. Authorities stated that the safety of the hostages was their priority, prompting calls for a magisterial inquiry into the incident.
