Children’s Aid Society Notified Before Boy’s Death in Ontario Care

In the lead-up to a 12-year-old boy’s death in December 2022 while in the care of prospective adoptive parents Brandy Cooney and Becky Hamber, the Children’s Aid Society (CAS) received multiple reports of abuse and neglect. The women are on trial for first-degree murder and other charges related to the boy and his brother, as concerns about their parenting and CAS’s involvement have emerged, with the trial expected to continue into December.
