Over a month this summer, four federal courts, including a recent unanimous decision by the 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, rejected President Trump’s executive order to end automatic citizenship for children of individuals in the U.S. illegally. The courts emphasized that the order conflicts with the 14th Amendment, which has established birthright citizenship, and the Supreme Court is expected to ultimately decide the matter.
