Ethiopia celebrated the start of its new year, 2018, which is seven years behind the Western calendar due to differing calculations of Jesus Christ’s birth. The festivities, known as Enkutatash, include vibrant markets, selling flowers and chickens for traditional feasts, as well as church services that reflect the cultural significance of renewal and unity.
