UN sets 2027 exit for Lebanon peacekeepers after Israeli strikes

The UN Security Council voted unanimously to end the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) by 2027, following pressure from Israel and the US, which hailed the decision as a step towards Lebanese sovereignty. Despite concerns from some nations about the potential for Hezbollah to exploit the situation, the resolution allows one final extension to support Lebanon’s armed forces in establishing authority over the region.
