In June 2025, northern Mozambique faced a worsening humanitarian crisis due to al-Shabab violence, leading to increased displacement and food insecurity. Despite 699,000 internally displaced persons returning home amid improved security, 461,000 remain displaced, grappling with poor conditions and inadequate support, as local authorities exert pressure for returns without proper consultation.
