The US plans to remove Syrian Islamist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) from its list of foreign terrorist organizations after HTS led a successful rebel offensive against the Assad regime, which has resulted in its leader, Ahmed al-Sharaa, becoming interim president. As Western countries, including the UK, seek to reset relations with Syria, concerns remain about the new government’s operations and violent attacks against minority groups.
