Bristol’s oldest shop is closing after 160 years in business

WH Mogford & Son, a historic hardware shop in Westbury-on-Trym, Bristol, is set to close permanently by September 2025 after over 160 years of operation due to declining customer numbers and rising costs. Owner Paul Gillam, who has been with the shop for 30 years, expressed gratitude to local supporters while customers lamented the loss of the beloved “Aladdin’s cave” of DIY supplies.
