Washington — Oklahoma’s attorney general, Gentner Drummond, announced plans to retry Richard Glossip for the 1997 murder of his boss, Barry Van Treese, after the Supreme Court granted him a new trial but will not seek the death penalty. Glossip, who has maintained his innocence and served 27 years in prison, faces a life sentence instead, as the key witness against him, Justin Sneed, is already serving a life sentence. Drummond acknowledged past prosecutorial misconduct in Glossip’s case and emphasized the importance of ensuring a fair trial based on solid evidence and truthful testimony.
