The Karnataka government has appointed retired High Court judge John Michael D’Cunha to investigate the June 4 stampede outside Chinnaswamy Stadium, which resulted in 11 fatalities and over 75 injuries during an IPL victory celebration. D’Cunha, who previously convicted former Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalithaa, is required to submit a report within a month, prompting an extension of his commission’s term to accommodate this priority case. A comprehensive investigation involving judicial, magisterial, and CID probes is underway, with key suspects already remanded and additional notices expected.
