Crown drops manslaughter charge against woman who fatally stabbed ex-NZ Māori league player after alleged abuse

A woman charged with fatally stabbing former New Zealand Māori rugby league player Neville Ramsay has been released after prosecutors dropped the case. Lawyers intended to argue that the woman was a long-term victim of domestic violence and that the stabbing was an act of self-defense, as Ramsay had barricaded himself in her home and assaulted her. The case was abandoned after the Crown reviewed the evidence and found it did not meet prosecution guidelines, despite the woman facing a potential life sentence if convicted.
