NIE's postgraduate teacher training programme to be shortened by four months: Desmond Lee

The National Institute of Education in Singapore announced that its 16-month postgraduate programme for teachers-in-training will be shortened to 12 months, emphasizing the integration of theory and practical application. Education Minister Desmond Lee highlighted the programme’s flexibility, allowing new teachers to choose elective courses alongside core modules, catering to their diverse backgrounds. Efforts will also be made to reduce teachers’ administrative workloads, with initiatives such as streamlining processes and enabling parents to submit absentee records directly, allowing teachers to focus more on student learning.
