Latin America escalates pressure on Israel over Gaza genocide – Middle East Monitor

As the war in Gaza devastates Palestinian civilians, Latin American countries, led by progressive governments, have vocally condemned Israel’s actions, labeling them as genocide. Brazil’s President Lula da Silva has accused Israel of genocide, halted oil exports, and supported a two-state solution, while Chile’s President Gabriel Boric has recalled ambassadors and suspended military ties to Israel. Colombia’s President Gustavo Petro also labeled the actions as genocide, recalling the ambassador and challenging traditional foreign policies, while Mexico’s response has been more restrained, avoiding the term “genocide.”
