Confession time: I feel a bit guilty for my excitement in hitting play on albums like TTPD and Ariana Grande’s Eternal Sunshine (ES). Both artists had recently gone through breakups and new relationships, sparking intense media coverage and endless speculation. I prefer hearing their perspectives through their music rather than through tabloid gossip.
Grande and Swift have a history of making their personal lives the focus of their music, often with a defensive tone. Their songs can be interpreted as deflecting blame or avoiding real responsibility. The level of interest and scrutiny surrounding their lyrics and personal lives has soared in recent years.
While Grande’s album was met with mixed reviews, it still had standout tracks that resonated with listeners and critics. On the other hand, Swift’s album, with its surprise release of additional songs and various collector’s editions, raised questions about the balance between artistic expression and commercialization.

Despite my reservations about their personal lives, I find myself drawn to their music. Grande’s melodies and production captivate me, while Swift’s lyrical prowess impresses many. However, as an occasional poet myself, I appreciate Swift’s focus on wordplay and storytelling.

While her earlier works resonated with a wide audience, her recent songs offer a glimpse into a life of luxury and privilege. Grande, on the other hand, keeps a lower profile in her personal life, allowing her music to speak for itself.

While the allure of celebrity drama may draw listeners in, the true value of music lies in its ability to evoke emotions and connect with audiences on a deeper level.
