EU says Israeli strikes in Gaza go beyond what is necessary to fight Hamas

The EU’s top diplomat, Kaja Kallas, condemned Israeli strikes in Gaza as excessive and criticized a new aid distribution model supported by the US and Israel that bypasses humanitarian organizations. The ongoing military actions have resulted in significant civilian casualties, with reports of 54,084 deaths in Gaza since the conflict escalated on October 7, following a Hamas attack. Kallas highlighted the humanitarian crisis exacerbated by Israel’s blockade, which prevents aid from reaching those in need, and described recent Israeli attacks as “abhorrent” and “disproportionate.”
