President Volodymyr Zelenskiy stated that Russian missiles targeted the port of Pivdennyi in Ukraine’s southern Odesa region, causing damage to both Ukrainian and Singaporean facilities located there.

During a virtual address to the NATO-Ukraine Council on Friday, Zelenskiy mentioned, “… they hit the Sea Port Pivdennyi. Several missiles struck port facilities, not only Ukrainian, but Singapore’s as well.”

Following the attack, the regional governor reported one person injured and Ukraine’s southern military command confirmed that fires were ignited as a result. Videos shared on local Telegram channels showed heavy black smoke rising from the targeted area.

Since Russia violated a UN-brokered agreement last summer, Ukrainian port infrastructure has been repeatedly targeted by Russian attacks. In response, Kyiv has established its own maritime corridor for safe shipments of Ukrainian grain.

Russia has increased its use of harder-to-intercept ballistic missiles to strike Ukraine’s southern regions in recent times.

Last week, Ukraine’s national rail firm imposed a ban on deliveries to the port of Chornomorsk, also located in the Odesa region. Reports suggest that Russian attacks may have caused damage to railway tracks leading to the port’s grain terminals.
