Weeks after reaching a settlement with Chicago over a legal dispute stemming from his 2019 hate crime claim, Jussie Smollett revealed he would donate $50,000 to the Building Brighter Futures Center for the Arts and an additional $10,000 to the Chicago Torture Justice Center. Smollett, who was previously convicted for orchestrating a hoax hate crime, maintained his innocence throughout the legal proceedings, which included a reversal of his conviction by the Illinois Supreme Court. His decision to settle was framed as a way to support marginalized communities, and he expressed gratitude to his supporters.
