According to a study published in Nature Food, Guyana is the only country among 186 surveyed that can self-sufficiently feed its entire population without relying on food imports. The research assessed countries’ capabilities in seven food groups: fruits, vegetables, dairy, fish, meat, plant-based protein, and starchy staples, revealing that 65% of countries overproduce meat and dairy compared to their dietary needs. While China and Vietnam are close, producing enough food in six out of the seven categories, only one in seven countries achieved self-sufficiency in five or more food groups.
