Iran, US to hold new round of nuclear talks in Rome

Iranian and US negotiators are set to meet in Rome for a fifth round of nuclear talks following disagreements over uranium enrichment, as Iran seeks a new deal to ease sanctions affecting its economy. Despite Iran’s willingness for more inspections, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi emphasized that no agreement would be reached if the US insists on halting enrichment, which currently exceeds the 2015 deal’s limits. The talks occur ahead of a crucial IAEA meeting and the October expiration of the 2015 accord, which aimed to mitigate concerns over Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
