Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas met in Beirut to support the control of all weapons by the Lebanese state and discuss disarming armed groups in Palestinian refugee camps. They agreed to form a joint Lebanese-Palestinian committee to improve conditions for the 222,000 Palestinian refugees in Lebanon while respecting Lebanese sovereignty. Abbas’s visit marks the first since 2017 and aims to establish a mechanism for removing weapons from camps, with a focus on enhancing Palestinian rights and avoiding involvement in Lebanon’s internal conflicts.
