Federal election judicial recount in Newfoundland hits day 8. What's taking so long?

A judicial recount in Newfoundland’s Terra Nova—The Peninsulas riding has entered its eighth day to determine whether Liberal candidate Anthony Germain or Conservative candidate Jonathan Rowe won, with only 12 votes separating them. Over 1,000 disputed ballots have emerged during the recount of 41,670 total votes, which began on May 12, and the process is being overseen by Justice Garrett Handrigan. The judge will ultimately rule on which disputed ballots count, affecting the seat count in the House of Commons, and results are expected soon.
