The EU’s agriculture commissioner, Christophe Hansen, has warned against prioritizing military spending over the €387bn Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), emphasizing the importance of food security in the current geopolitical climate. As negotiations for the next budget begin, there are proposals to merge the CAP with other funds, which has faced strong opposition from farming groups concerned about potential funding reductions. Hansen insists on the need for a dedicated agriculture budget while addressing environmental demands and maintaining high production standards in trade agreements.
