The US Senate has confirmed Charles Kushner as ambassador to France with a 51-to-45 vote. Kushner, who received a presidential pardon from Donald Trump after serving two years in prison for witness tampering and tax evasion, had the support of Senator Cory Booker, the only Democrat to back his nomination, while Senator Lisa Murkowski opposed it. At his confirmation hearing, Kushner acknowledged his past “serious mistakes,” suggesting that they might enhance his effectiveness as an ambassador.
