The Syrian government and DP World signed an $800 million memorandum of understanding to develop the port of Tartous, following the lifting of US sanctions. This agreement aims to establish a multi-purpose terminal and includes the creation of industrial and free trade zones. The deal coincides with US President Donald Trump’s decision to lift sanctions, which he announced after discussions with Saudi and Turkish leaders, facilitating foreign investment and humanitarian engagement in Syria’s rebuilding efforts.
