Sycamore Gap pair quizzed over homophobic attack days before tree was felled

Daniel Graham, 39, and Adam Carruthers, 32, are on trial for cutting down the iconic Sycamore Gap tree at Hadrian’s Wall in September 2023, causing significant public outrage and damages estimated at £622,191. Their involvement in a reported homophobic attack, where a man was allegedly doused in icing sugar, has also emerged during the investigation; however, police did not pursue charges against them due to insufficient evidence.
