Mauricio Pochettino calls for change to Chelsea’s transfer policy

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has called on the club’s owners to bring in more experienced players this summer to support the current group of young players.

Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital have focused on signing young players with high potential since taking over at Stamford Bridge, investing heavily in the hope of building a team capable of dominating for years to come.

However, the immediate results have not met expectations, leading Pochettino to believe that his young core needs more experienced players around them to guide them.

“We can continue with the same strategy of signing young players,” Pochettino stated. “But we already have Thiago Silva, Raheem Sterling, and Marcus Bettinelli in the squad. Marcus may not be playing, but he contributes significantly by mentoring the young players.

“We have experienced players in the team. It is not against the project to have players who can guide the young ones, help them perform, be professional, and understand what it takes to play in the Premier League and for Chelsea.

“We need to have discussions and decide on the strategy for the next season.”

90min has learned that Chelsea’s owners plan to meet with Pochettino this summer for a comprehensive evaluation, allowing both parties to provide feedback on the current season.

Pochettino is expected to express his desire for more experienced signings and address Chelsea’s ongoing injury issues, which he believes have hindered the team’s progress.

“There are various factors making it challenging for the team to improve,” he added. “This season will help us make the right decisions for the next season. That was the question before.

“We need to bring in more young players and some experienced players. This involves discussions with the club, analysis, and determining the strategy for the next season. It’s crucial.

“We need to evaluate all the players. Why were they injured, will they face injuries in the future, and what is their injury history?

“This is crucial because we need to manage the situation. We now have the reality as we are inside and have the information. It’s about discussing with the club and determining the best strategy to be competitive next season and compete for big things.”
