Azerbaijan backs Syria’s recovery as ties deepen under new government – Middle East Monitor

An Azerbaijani delegation, led by Deputy Prime Minister Samir Sharifov, visited Syria to enhance bilateral cooperation and support reconstruction efforts, meeting with transitional President Ahmad Al-Sharaa in Damascus. The discussions focused on collaboration in the economy, energy, culture, and education, building on previous meetings, and included a letter from President Aliyev inviting Al-Sharaa to Azerbaijan. This visit, coinciding with Azerbaijan’s embassy reopening in Syria, marks a shift in Azerbaijan’s foreign policy towards Damascus as the latter seeks to rebuild regional ties post-conflict.
