NEW DELHI: The Bombay High Court criticized police for the alarming practice of copy-pasting witness statements in charge sheets, labeling it a “dangerous culture” that could favor the accused. During a hearing regarding a petition from individuals seeking to quash an FIR linked to a suicide case, the court noted the striking similarities in witness statements, suggesting witnesses might not have been properly questioned. The court urged the Maharashtra government to implement guidelines for recording witness statements and appointed advocate Mukul Kulkarni as amicus curiae to propose solutions, with further hearings set for June 27.
