Bluesky now allows heads of state to join the platform
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Bluesky has now opened up to the public and introduced new moderation options. The team has decided to allow world leaders to join the platform as well. In a post from the official Bluesky account on Friday, users were notified that the “no heads of state” policy has been lifted. This policy had been in place for the past year as Bluesky worked through the early growing pains of being a new social network.

Bluesky was previously an invite-only platform since its launch in February 2023, until February of this year when it removed the waitlist. Last May, Bluesky had stated that it was not ready for heads of state to join and even requested users to inform its support team before inviting prominent figures. The platform has now grown to over 5 million users, with around a million new users joining in just one day after invite codes were no longer required.
