Al Ahli secured their first Asian Champions League title by defeating Japan’s Kawasaki Frontale 2-0 in Jeddah, having previously been runners-up in 1986 and 2012. Goals from Brazilian Galeno and Ivory Coast captain Franck Kessie in the first half sealed the victory, making Al Ahli only the third Saudi club to win the title. With this win, Roberto Firmino, Edouard Mendy, and Riyad Mahrez became the first players to hold both the Asian and European Champions League titles, as Al Ahli finished the campaign unbeaten in 13 matches.
