Israel announced it will mobilize thousands of reserve soldiers to intensify its military campaign against Hamas in Gaza, where humanitarian aid has been barred for over two months, exacerbating the suffering of the population. Prime Minister Netanyahu’s security cabinet is expected to approve an expansion of operations, as over 50,000 have died in the conflict since Hamas’s surprise attack on October 7, 2023, which left around 1,200 Israelis dead and many others taken hostage. Despite international mediation efforts for a cease-fire, both sides maintain conflicting demands, complicating the prospect of a resolution.
