The famous chimney that will signify to the world the election of a new pope has been installed on the roof of the Sistine Chapel ahead of the conclave next week. Vatican firefighters were seen fixing the chimney as preparations for the May 7 vote to name Pope Francis’ successor continue. During the conclave, ballots will be burned to produce either black smoke (if no pope is elected) or white smoke (if a new pope is chosen), with the last election resulting in Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio becoming Pope Francis after the fifth ballot in 2013.
